Some people overreacted to changes in the privacy policy (things that most other apps already do) and then inappropriate slapped the spyware label on Audacity. ![]() There is no such company (as far as I know) involved with Audacity's development, which is only between the Audacity Team and MuseScore's owner. Answer (1 of 8): Audacity is not spyware. The reviews seem legit, since there are some bad reviews, and when I posted a bad review some weeks ago complaining about a new update, they answered me and other dude who had the same complaint, without taking our reviews down, or asking me to change it. ![]() So? How is that any reliable indicator of safety? Reviews can easily be rigged or incentivized. I mean, from what I've read, the Windows Store has a good protection against malware. How is the Windows Store not on the "web?" Audacity was purchased earlier this year by a company called Muse Group, which owns various music and audio software, such as Ultimate Guitar, MuseScore and Tonebridge. I got some malware from downloading some stuff, a few years ago, and since then, been extra careful.
